Did you know that Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) is one of the most butterfly-friendly plants of our region. The five butterflies above all lay eggs on stinging nettle and three of these butterflies only* lay their eggs on Stinging Nettle. From bottom left to top right: Westcoast Lady, Satyr Anglewing*, Red Admiral*, Painted Lady, Milbert's Tortioseshell*

Pollinator Partnership Canada recently released a planting guide for the Victoria area! These ecoregional guides help land owners and land managers select plants for pollinators specific to their region. Saanich Native Plants had the honour of helping with the planting suggestions outlined in this guide.
